Technical Overview Controlled Vocabulary Designer

Controlled Vocabulary Designer

In order to link data across organizations and disciplines, it is necessary to unify the terminology and vocabulary used to describe the data. Usually, this unification process requires not only specialized knowledge of information processing, but also specialized knowledge of the field in question, and is also time-consuming. The Controlled Vocabulary Designer eliminates the need for specialized knowledge of information processing with its GUI and AI so that only experts in the field can work on terminology definition, making the creation of controlled vocabularies more efficient than with conventional methods. SKOS, a standard specification for describing controlled vocabulary and thesaurus, is used as the input/output format, facilitating external linkage. In addition, a simplified format (CSV) has been developed to describe the necessary term lists more easily than SKOS, and input/output in the simplified format is supported. Since terminology definition work can be performed only by experts in the field, it is easy to keep up with new terms, contributing to continually reducing the hurdles to data federation.
